Does a bear slip through the clouds…? Yes, but you’d definitely notice it happening.
The blade tips of the Tupolev Tu-95 Bear’s eight propellers move faster than sound, producing a small but perpetual sonic boom and making this plane incredibly LOUD.
(The photographer in the other aircraft, maybe a third of a mile away and wearing a headset, could probably hear the racket clearly over the sound of his own plane. That’s a bit too much…)
This kind of thing is just one of the many, many reasons why I have a diagram in my flight school notebook of an airplane with ‘OK’ written above it, ‘OK BUT ENH’ below it, and ‘THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE AT ALL’ behind it. Don’t mess with the trailing vortices.
